This is an update on the security problems with Canvas this week. Please accept our apologies for not making our 9:00 am timeline.

Instructure, the company that runs Canvas, is making more security updates. We believe Canvas is now stable. You can now log in to Canvas at Highline. 

Highline and Canvas are still investigating what happened. Right now, it looks like some of your information may have been viewed by unauthorized people. This includes your name, email address, student ID number, and messages you sent on Canvas.

Additionally, we have heard from at least one student that they have received messages threatening to release their personal data if they do not pay a ransom. We believe messages like this are phishing from people trying to take advantage of this situation.

• You may get unexpected emails, text messages, or phone calls that ask for personal information or that direct you to log in to a web site other than Canvas.
• If you receive a message like this, do not respond and do not click the links in it. Report the message to helpdesk@highline.edu.
