Highline’s Guide to GenAI

Microsoft 365 Copilot and Google Gemini for Workspaces

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is a type of artificial intelligence that can learn from and mimic large amounts of data to create content such as text, images, music, videos, code, and more, based on user-provided prompts.  Prompts are instructions or inputs given to an AI system to elicit a specific response. These can be questions, commands, information, coding, or other forms of natural communication.

Highline has licensing contracts with two GenAI tools:  Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Google Gemini for Workspaces. These tools are available to faculty, staff, and students.

Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini are integrated into their respective productivity suites (Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace) making it easier for users to access and utilize information effectively, while providing institutional data protections.  These tools are designed to generate content, enhance creativity, provide insights, summarize, improve collaboration, and help streamline tasks.

While Copilot and Gemini will provide data protection when used with your Highline credentials, it is still important to not include any confidential or sensitive information, including personally identifiable information (PII) about students when using CoPilot and Gemini.
