May 12 Update on Canvas Incident

This is an update on the security problems with Canvas last week. Canvas is operating normally.

Late Monday, the company that makes Canvas reached an agreement with the hackers to return any data that was taken.  The hackers agreed to delete any versions of data they copied. We hope this means that your data is now safe again, but we are continuing to monitor the situation.

Despite this agreement, you may still receive messages from “copycat” people trying to take advantage of this situation.

  • You may get unexpected emails, text messages, or phone calls that ask for personal information or that direct you to log in to a web site other than Canvas.
  • If you receive a message like this, do not respond and do not click the links in it. Report the message to helpdesk@highline.edu.

If you have questions, please contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@highline.edu.

We will continue to share more details when we learn more.
